What Goes Around Comes Around: More on the inFAMOUS 2 Karma System

I think most of us at Sucker Punch have noticed the days starting to blur together a bit. So while I had a quiet moment here on Southwest Flight 651, I thought I’d put the time to good use and give you an update on our progress with I2 (inFAMOUS 2).

When we took a look at the Karma system in I1 (inFAMOUS, the first game) we wanted to keep the successful stuff, but also make improvements … As a top line, we knew we wanted to continue to offer players the choice and responsibility that comes along with having powers. This is one of the central themes of many archetype super-hero stories, as well as an interesting exploration of the relationship between power, responsibility and the test of character that powers bring. So, that had to stay.

But on the flip side, we got feedback from fans that some of the choices felt too mechanical, and they wanted their choices to have more meaning in the narrative and in the world. So, our challenge with I2 was to ... More >

inFAMOUS 2 Limited Release Beta: Mission Designers Wanted

inFAMOUS 2 Limited Release Beta: Mission Designers Wanted

Here at Sucker Punch, we’ve spent the last couple of years hard at work on inFAMOUS 2. Over the last nine months or so, we’ve talked about a lot of things that make I2 awesome—things like crazy new powers for Cole, super-powered sidekicks, radically improved graphics and special effects, a cool new karma system with branching story lines and multiple endings—but we’ve managed to keep one major feature completely secret.

Until today.

Sandbox games like inFAMOUS 2 are a ton of fun. There’s a whole city to explore, and we provide lots of stuff to do in the city… but no matter how many missions and mini-missions and systemic opportunities and branching story lines we add to the game, eventually the story ends.

We thought inFAMOUS 2 would be better if it didn’t end—if you never ran out of missions and mini-missions to play and things to do. So… we spent the last two years adding a User-Generated ... More >

inFAMOUS 2: Quest For Power

inFAMOUS 2: Quest For Power

Today I’m here to talk about everyone’s favorite topic: powers! More specifically, how does Cole manage to improve on is already impressive set of electrical abilities?

For those of you who don’t know the original inFAMOUS story, Cole’s electrical powers appear when he’s caught in the blast of a mysterious device called the Ray Sphere. Cole gains more and more abilities, becomes more and more powerful, and survives the gauntlet of Empire City… but he also is given a glimpse into his future. He realizes that even at the height of his powers, he is no match for the challenge that awaits. A battle with a great Beast looms, and Cole isn’t ready to face it.

So in inFAMOUS 2, Cole travels South to New Marais to trace a path to the man behind the Ray Sphere technology, Dr. Sebastian Wolfe. With buddy Zeke riding shotgun, they set off to find the key to the next step in Cole’s evolution and a new level of power– powers ... More >

inFAMOUS 2: From Pixel to Plastic - The Making of the Cole Figurine

inFAMOUS 2: From Pixel to Plastic - The Making of the Cole Figurine

Hey Everyone,

My name is Jeff Feligno and I’m a Character Artist here at Sucker Punch Productions. Most of my days consist of digitally sculpting a character or creature that will go into one of our games. But before I was working in the game industry I was a toy sculptor. When we decided to create the inFAMOUS 2 Hero Edition, I was asked to help design a collectible statue of Cole.

As you can see, a lot of care was put into this figure to get it just right for all the diehard inFAMOUS fans. In this article we’re going to discuss what went into making it a reality.

We start with a piece of approved concept art. Cole is defending New Marais, so we decided to go with a “Cole on rooftop” image where he could be overlooking the city. A pose with one foot up seemed to work well as we also wanted to incorporate some of the architecture from New Marais into ... More >

inFAMOUS 2: Legendary Music Behind the Mayhem

inFAMOUS 2: Legendary Music Behind the Mayhem

inFAMOUS 1 composers Jim Dooley and JD Mayer have combined forces with New Orleans' legendary band Galactic and percussionist/composer Brain (Primus, Tom Waits) to craft the score for inFAMOUS 2. The result gives the city of New Marais a unique and eclectic musical landscape. This creative collaboration has yielded four hours of music combining elements of orchestral, jazz, rock and funk styles into an epic original score. Playstation is proud to bring the original score to inFAMOUS fans as two complete volumes; The Blue Soundtrack and The Red Soundtrack.

The Blue Soundtrack will be available to fans via the Playstation Network and iTunes as well as a physical release prior to the launch of the game. The Playstation Network version of The BlueSoundtrack will include a collection of 15 bonus tracks mixed in surround sound for playback on PS3 systems with a 6-channel home theater system! The Red Soundtrack will feature over an additional hour of unique material from the ... More >

inFAMOUS 2: Comic Book Insights and Art from DC Comics

Wondering why you should pick up the inFAMOUS 2 comic, and how it relates to the game? Check out our Q&A for more information!

Why should someone pick up this series if they were a fan of the game?

After inFAMOUS came out, a lot of fans asked what happened to Moya, Sasha, and the other characters that survived until the end of the game. The comic not only fills in those gaps, but it also shows that Moya and Kessler had a relationship long before the events of inFAMOUS -- basically that Kessler worked for Moya. Hopefully people will read the comic and then go back to the first game with a deeper understanding of the character's motivations and how that impacted what happened to Cole.

When you were brought in to write the comic, was it based around an idea you had or was it developed over time?

The idea was primarily ... More >
